Franz Jules KEGELJAN
(Namur, 1847 - Profondeville, 1921)

Drawings; ink and watercolor, sceneries by Namur, dated on 1915.

Painter, pastelliste, watercolorist, draftsman and aquafortist of landscapes and urban sites. Pupil of Théodore Baron to the Art Academy of Namur. Exhibition for the first time to the "Salon" of Namur in 1877. Represented the edges of the Meuse, the Ourthe and the Semois. Visit France, Germany and Italy from 1886. He studied then the archaeological rests of the Middle Ages.
Realized in 1900 for Hotel of City of Namur " the History of Namur " in forty paintings. Further to their destruction during the fire of 1914, the artist begun again them and offers them to the City in 1921. His house will become Hotel of City of Namur in 1919.

The presented drawings are certainly preparatory works in paintings begun again during the fire of 1914.
